Q: What is your best pillow?
There is no easy answer; "best" is an individual determination. Most individuals have a personal preference in regards to firmness, size and shape. Q: What is the difference between a comforter and a duvet?
In the U.S. the terms are often used interchangeably. You will see that we use the term "comforter" most often when describing our product line because it is the term most frequently used in the United States. When we add ties to the corners we change the description to duvet to indicate the ties are available for connecting it to the ties are anchors of a duvet cover.
In the strictest definition, a comforter is pre-filled and stitched, often with polyester, and usually made with a decorative fabric. It is not intended to have a cover placed over it. A duvet can be filled with down, down & feather blends, or polyester and is designed to fit inside a duvet cover which provides the design element and keeps the duvet clean.
Q: What size comforter should I buy?
If you plan to use a duvet cover you already own, be sure to purchase a comforter that will fit the duvet cover properly. The comforter (aka duvet) should be the same size, or slightly larger than your duvet cover. You can use a comforter up to 2 inches larger with no problem. If the comforter is smaller than the duvet cover it will move around inside the cover.
If you are not fitting a current duvet cover then you want to take into consideration how much you want the comforter to overhang on each side of the bed. Once you purchase your comforter you will then want to follow the guidelines stated above for purchasing your duvet cover. Take into consideration the mattress width, depth and bed height when making this decision. The measurement for each comforter style is available when you view product details.
Q: How often should I wash/clean my down comforter?
We strongly recommend that you protect the investment you have made in a down comforter by using a duvet cover. The duvet cover can be removed frequently for laundering without the need to launder the down comforter. If the comforter remains clean and dry, we recommend professionally laundering your down comforter 1-2 times per year.
Q: Are your down & feathers hypo-allergenic?
Yes. Our Snow White Down and white duck feathers are washed and processed using the DownGuard™ method. This process thoroughly cleans and sterilizes the down and feathers. We do, however, realize that allergies come in varying degrees of sensitivity and recommend that individuals with extreme sensitivities to down & feathers consider our down alternative options.
Q: Can I get an extra high loft down comforter without it being too warm?
Unfortunately, no. By its very nature, down provides warmth without weight. Your comforter decision will require that you prioritize form or function so that you purchase the correct one for your specific need.
If functionality is most important, you should consider the geographic area and your personal preferences.
If you want to create a lush, "puffy" appearance to your bed we recommend comfortor styles under the Luxury and Winter weights for their lush appearance and heavier fill weight, but keep in mind these styles will be the warmest. If you love the lofty appearance but are concerned about warmth, we would suggest that you follow the practice of luxury hotels and place a down blanket under your comforter for use while sleeping. Your comforter can then be turned down or removed at bedtime.
The chart below shows our comforter options and rates them by weight/ warmth/ loft. Luxury and Winter have higher fill weights, providing maximum loft and warmth, whereas Fall and Summer provide less fill material and warmth.

Q: Do you make custom deco pillow fillers?
Yes, we are a great source for your custom filler needs. We offer a variety of fill options and quick turnaround times. And, perhaps the best thing about our program...no minimum order required!
Q: What size deco pillow filler should I order to fit my cover?
We recommend that you order the filler 1" larger in length and width. If your cover is 12" x 16" you should request a filler sized at 13" x 17". This will allow your cover to be filled corner to corner.
Q: Can I order something to look at and return it if I don't like it?
Down Inc. is a just-in-time manufacturer. We make each item to order and do not inventory finished goods in our manufactured products such as comforters, pillows, feather beds and deco pillow fillers. Returns are not allowed on custom orders.
Request to return stock items must be made to our customer service department in advance of return and, if approved, supported with the proper return authorization paperwork. Returned goods are subject to inspection and a minimum15% restocking fee. Credit, less shipping and restocking fees, will be issued only if the item shows no sign of use and is acceptable for resale.
Q: When will my order ship?
Items requiring manufacturing ship, on average, in five business days. Manufactured items include: comforters, pillows, feather beds, deco fillers. Non-manufactured items such as sheets, duvet covers and mattress pads ship, on average, in two business days. If your order includes both manufactured and non-manufactured items then it will ship based on the manufactured time schedule. We ask that you understand seasonal and manufacturing demands may impact delivery dates during peak seasons.
Q: How much will shipping cost be?
For Wholesale Orders: Shipping cost for wholesale orders are determined at the time of shipment. Determining factors include: shipping method, delivery zone, weight and dimensional volume. Because we do not require case pack orders exact cost cannot be determined until your order is completed. If you require an estimate, please contact our customer service staff
For Outlet Store Orders: Shipping cost will be shared with you at checkout.
Q: Are your products Made in the USA?
Most of our products filled with down and feathers are made in our manufacturing facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If you have a question about a specific product feel free to email or call us.
Q: Where do you get your down and feathers?
Our domestic Snow White Down and white duck feathers are a product of the USA. They are a by-product of the farming operation of our parent company, Maple Leaf Farms. The ducks are raised for the food industry, not for the feathers. The use of the feathers is a great example of "up-cycling" - taking something that is a by-product of one process and using it in a beneficial, eco-friendly manner in another process. We purchase our goose down and feather fill materials from both European and Asian sources.
Q: What is fill power?
Fill power is a numerical designation for the volume one ounce of down occupies. The higher the value the more volume the one ounce will occupy. Fill power also provides an index for determining the lofting, insulation properties and quality of the down.
